I want to ride my bike!
The grass is crisp with frost and the air bitterly blows my hair around when I venture out the front door. Right now, I'm cuddled on the couch dreading the chore of taking the dog out for the evening. I'm trying to distract myself by thinking about bicycling on flat country roads and pedaling past horse farms and vegetable gardens.
This is a collection of hand made and vintage items on Etsy that fit wonderfully with my theme!

Introducing...a hand stamped necklace line
Here it is! The first of this year's new jewelry lines!
I would like to introduce... a line of sterling necklaces with hand stamped messages; a simple word with a lot of meaning (peace) or an inspiring phrase (faith, hope, love). Each necklace is made to order and will be personalized with Swarovski crystals of your choice...birthstones anyone? The sterling pendants hang from a sterling chain with a couple of crystals. I enjoyed making these necklaces, the process of selecting the appropriate stamp, positioning it, and hammering the imprint was rhythmical and relaxing. "Tap, tap" Because each is hand stamped, some variation is expected, but that increases the artistic quality and uniqueness of each piece. I hope you agree with me!
What do you think about this line? Take a look at the rest of the line in my shop, I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Design Time
With the start of the new year, I've decided to make some changes (but not New Year's Resolutions- no one ever sticks to those) to Peace of Grace Designs in order to facilitate growth and increase recognition of my brand. Primarily, I'd like to increase the number of successful craft shows I participate in and I would love, love, love to have my jewelry in a brick & mortar store. To do these things, I think I need to improve the cohesion of my jewelry so I've decided to design a few lines of jewelry for the year and focus on creating more pieces of a similar style. Typically, I design something and am so excited I make another one or two similar (but not identical) pieces. Then I'm inspired by a new design and I move onto the new design- no looking back. This has led to a wide range of pieces in my shop but a lack of clearly defined style or direction.
I spend a few afternoons this week working on one of those lines. Here is a sneak peak.
A glimpse of my workspace this afternoon. I set up a folding table on the sun porch and worked until the sun set while my husband sat on the window seat and read a book. The dog napped on the floor between us.
Swarovski crystals in birthstone colors. These are wonderful- a little bit sparkly and such beautiful colors. The different combinations are endless and the way the colors complement each other are gorgeous. I like to use birthstones to personalize jewelry and make it a little more special.

Peace of Grace Designs for Dogs?!?
Since we've welcomed Yahtzee into our household, my husband and I have had all kinds of ideas for products aimed at dog owners (shhh I'm not going to share any of our ingenious million dollar ideas here! haha) We've only had the skills to make one so far, but I have to say I'm really happy with what we made! These were Christmas gifts for our dog owning friends.
I'm thinking about adding them to Etsy, but I haven't decided yet. I think that I will have them at craft shows, and shoppers could order them to be customized. I would love to make them on the spot, but I'd need a large vendor space and an assistant; I usually am solo at my shows. And oh yeah, I'd have to have neighbors that didn't mind the loud hammering!

Sweet Potato Gnocchi
I usually write about jewelry making and beading projects I am working on, but I want to branch out and share other parts of my life. I love to create, and not just jewelry, but to sew, craft, garden, and cook. My husband enjoys cooking too, and I'm blessed that this is an activity we have fun doing together. I am gluten free, so it can be challenging to find healthy, clean meals that we both enjoy.
Impulsively, I bought one of the cookbooks in the grocery store checkout aisle- a Betty Crocker/Pillsbury publication of easy, gluten free cooking. As soon as I saw a GF lasagna recipe made with zucchini and squash instead of noodles I was hooked.
I was so excited to try the recipes and picked GF sweet potato gnocchi to try first. We are really enjoying sweet potatoes this season!
The prep was easy. After baking the potatoes, I scooped out the inside and added a few ingredients like rice flour, cinnamon, and lemon juice. I stirred it all up and then scooped out a handful at a time.
On a pile of rice flour, I rolled out the mixture and cut the snake into pieces and put them on a baking sheet. I even made the cute little tine marks on the top so they looked professional!
After I got through the whole bowl, the trays went into the freezer for half an hour. Next, they sauteed quickly in some oil which created a great crisp on the outside. The recipe made 4 servings and we didn't need that much food, so I put half the gnocchi into a freezer bag- without cooking them- and they will be ready for a night when we need a quick dinner. It did take a while to make all these, but since we got 2 meals out of the work, it was worthwhile. I like that the prep can be done whenever you have some time because the gnocchi has to freeze for at least 30 minutes before cooking. Next time I prepare this, I want to double the recipe so we get even more meals from it.
Served with a side of sauteed spinach and roasted chicken breast= delicious! There was more spinach on this plate then it looks, don't worry its a balanced meal! The white powdery stuff on the gnocchi is the Parmesan cheese my hubby put on his. I didn't add any cheese (the gnocchi has cinnamon in it- cheese & cinnamon?? Weird.) but I did put BBQ sauce on the chicken. Yum. I love this new way to use a popular fall vegetable. Do you like sweet potatoes? How do you like to prepare them? Do you have a favorite recipe?
P.S. Are you wondering why I have a picture of my husband's dinner plate? Because he takes pictures of all his meals. For his blog. Check it out, he is on quite a journey that is awesome to witness!

I'm hosting an event!
I love designing and creating jewelry, but I also love to teach other people jewelry making. If a group of people begin to create, and each has the exact same materials, the finished pieces of jewelry are always different, each is unique.
And that's why...I'm hosting an event! And not just any jewelry making event- an event for MEN! Gasp, yes I know...men making jewelry?!? But they can, I promise! My husband is living, breathing proof. He has made me some very nice pieces, of his own design even.
And, not only is it possible for men to make (spectacular) jewelry, but the type of necklace they will make at my event is perfect for men. I mean really, it requires the use of hammers and steel blocks and still looks pretty being pounded on! Don't believe me? Check out some examples below!
This will be held Dec 15th, just in time for creating handmade Christmas gifts for girlfriends, wives, and mothers.
Also, did I mention that this is going to be held at a bar? And that it includes free gift wrapping?
More information is available on my website (wow it feels great to write that) and you can ask your boyfriend/husband/male in your life to register and make you something amazing! If you have any questions, you can leave me a comment here or email me.
As always, I'd love feedback. Is this something your boyfriend/husband/etc would do for you? Does your guy think jewelry making is too girly and he wants no parts of it?

Welcome home Yahtzee!
Yesterday my husband and I welcomed a dog into our home. He named her Yahtzee and she is adorable and sweet. I'll give you one picture of her here and then send you to my husband's blog because he has already written about her and has many pictures posted.
Why aren't I going to write me? Because I have to go take pictures for some customers and get ready for my second week at my new day job! I have a lot of preparing to do! Enjoy the pictures!
